The Good:

"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is historyPresident Barack Obama signed the bill which lifted "Don't Ask, Don't Tell",  a ban that prevented bisexual, lesbian and gay citizens from serving openly in the military (transgender citizens are not protected by the repeal and can still be discharged).  Amongst those in attendance for the signing was Lt. Dan Choi, who finally received his ring back from Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV).

Here's what Choi tweeted right after the event.  Looks like his work isn't done:

If you missed the live event, view it below.

United Nations reinstates LGBTI reference in anti-execution resolution– In a vote of 93-55, the UN restored references to sexual orientation & gender identity in a resolution which condemns extrajudicial, summary and arbitrary executions.  Last month, the general assembly voted to remove the references, which resulted in a campaign led by U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice to reinstate them.  [@The New Civil Rights Movement]

The Bad:

Target's [still] up to their old tricks–  It has been revealed that American retail chain Target continued donating to anti-lgbt candidates & PACs for months after its CEO was caught supporting an anti-equality gubernatorial candidate.  [@The Awl]

And…the *SMH*

NYC-area DJ makes tasteless HIV joke DJ Cipha Sounds of  HOT 97  was suspended indefinitely after boasting on-air that the reason he was HIV-negative was because he doesn't "mess with Haitian girls".  The remark resulted in a flood of calls to the radio station and protests by the local Haitian-American community.  DJ Cipha has since apologized for his comments.
